THE POWER OF TECHNOLOGY MAKES ME INFINITE
In creating technologies, imagination is the boundary, but the imaginary is limitless. Using technology I can go beyond myself, increase and expand into other times and spaces because I live technology intensely. Having access to the greatest technological and computational power in history is exciting. It has the power to truly makes me extraordinary.
For this series of work, I took scenes of daily life in my city (Bogotá, Colombia) and overlaid additional scenes from science fiction movies, TV, and pulp fiction that had had an emotional impact on me. Science fiction creates worlds that reflect illusions, hopes, dreams, fears and fantasies—all produced by technological advances. It has had a tremendous impact on our imagination and thinking about the technological future of humanity.
This future imagines a modified and improved human species that overcomes its biological limitations. It imagines artificial intelligence, robots, multiverses, virtual simulations, cosmic travel, advanced space beings. It imagines devices that change the relationship between life and death, and others that expand the power of humans to control the risk of extinction. The course of technology is set toward infinity and that is where we are heading.
Many of the advances that I had dreamed in the past through science fiction, are today within my reach. So I continue dreaming…
